Getting Married in Bali: The Ultimate Guide (2026 Updated Edition)
Welcome to our comprehensive Bali wedding guide. This resource is designed to explain the journey of planning your wedding on the Island of the Gods. Here, you will find detailed information on every step of the process, including costs, venues, timing, and our range of specialized services.
When to Get Married in Bali
To avoid the stifling midday heat, our wedding ceremonies typically begin in the late afternoon, around 4:00 PM.
The Seasons:
-
Dry Season (April to November): This is our recommended period. The weather is generally clear and sunny.
-
May to June: Ideal conditions—sunny, warm, and beautiful.
-
July to September: The “windy season.” The weather is pleasant, and temperatures drop at night. A cool breeze is sometimes accompanied by light, brief showers.
-
September to November: Very hot and humid as the dry season peaks.
-
Rainy Season (November to March): Characterized by heavy rains, often in the evening or at night. We generally advise against planning outdoor weddings during this period.
High vs. Low Season: The peak tourist months are July, August, and the Christmas/New Year period. During these times, villas and hotels are more expensive, traffic is heavier, and airfares are at their highest.
Our Recommendation: Aim for May, June, September, or October outside of school holiday periods for the best balance of weather, price, and tranquility.
Getting to Bali
-
From Europe: The fastest routes from Paris or Amsterdam are via Air France / KLM. After a 12-hour flight, there is usually a 1-hour technical stop in Singapore, followed by a 3-hour flight to Bali.
-
Alternative Routes: Flights via the Middle East (Qatar Airways, Emirates, or Turkish Airlines) are often very efficient and cost-effective.
-
Regional Travel: For our clients in Singapore, Hong Kong, or Australia, Bali is just a few hours away with numerous daily direct flights.
Choosing Your Venue
We offer several types of locations to suit your vision:
-
Private Villas: The most flexible and popular solution. We have a curated selection of villas for all budgets, featuring ocean views, rice terrace backdrops, or clifftop settings.
-
Private Outdoor Venues: We can privatize a beach or a clifftop for a few hours for your ceremony, followed by a dinner in a nearby restaurant or your own villa.
-
Hotels: We generally do not recommend large resorts as they are often too restrictive (fixed decor, no outside caterers, noise limits). However, we do work with several boutique hotels that offer more flexibility.
-
Churches & Chapels: These are primarily reserved for formal religious or legal ceremonies.
Where to Stay
Most of our weddings take place in Southern Bali. Here is a breakdown of the key areas:
-
Seminyak / Kerobokan: The heart of Bali’s chic tourism. Excellent restaurants, high-end boutiques, and central to everything.
-
Canggu: A dynamic, trendy area with great beaches and villas that often offer rice field views. Generally better value for money than Seminyak.
-
Jimbaran / Uluwatu (The Bukit): This is where 90% of our weddings are held. Expect breathtaking cliffs and white sand beaches.
-
Ubud: Perfect for a “green” wedding surrounded by lush jungle and rice terraces.
-
Nusa Lembongan & Gili Islands: For those dreaming of a “castaway” paradise. Accessible by speedboat from Bali.
How Much Does it Cost?
Prices can vary from €800 to over €20,000, depending on the scale. Every wedding is bespoke, but here are three common benchmarks:
1. Intimate Ceremony (2 to 6 people): €800 – €2,000 Includes: Decor & flowers, venue privatization (beach/cliff), officiant, professional photographer, hair & makeup, and private transport.
2. Ceremony & Dinner (10 to 20 people): €2,000 – €5,000 Includes: Full floral setup, guest seating, photo & video, private transport for all, and a decorated dinner table (restaurant or villa chef).
3. Grand Wedding (30 to 60+ people): €10,000 – €20,000+ Includes: 2-night villa rental (plus event fees), full catering and bar service, professional lighting, sound system, generator, and entertainment (DJ, live band, Balinese dancers, or fireworks).
Legal, Religious, or Symbolic Ceremony?
Crucial Note: Legal marriage for foreign tourists is extremely complex in Indonesia.
Legal Weddings: Only possible if one partner is an Indonesian national or has a residency permit (KITAS) for at least 2 months. Religious Weddings: Indonesian law requires both partners to share the same religion.
-
Catholic: Must take place in a Catholic church.
-
Protestant & Islamic: More flexibility in location.
Symbolic Ceremonies: This is the choice for 95% of our international clients. You handle the legal paperwork in your home country and celebrate your “real” wedding in Bali with a beautiful, personalized ceremony without the administrative headache.
